Kenya is one of the world’s great safari destinations. From the Masai Mara to the coast at Mombasa, it draws hundreds of thousands of UK visitors every year. It also has some of the strictest vaccination entry requirements in Africa. 

Yellow Fever certification is required if you’re arriving from certain countries, and strongly recommended regardless. Malaria is present across most of the country.

Malaria Information 


High across most of Kenya, including Nairobi’s outskirts, the coast, and all safari regions. Antimalarial medication is strongly recommended. 

Travel Health Tips

  • Mosquitoes: The big one. DEET 50%, treated nets, long sleeves and trousers after dark. 
  • Water: Bottled only. Avoid ice and salads washed in tap water. 
  • Sun and altitude: Highlands bring altitude sickness risk. Drink plenty of water and use high-factor sunscreen.
  • Safari safety: Listen to your guides. Don’t leave your vehicle in game reserves. 
  • Yellow Fever card: Keep it with your passport. Some airlines check at boarding.
