Malaria Information
Sri Lanka was certified malaria-free by the WHO in 2016. Antimalarials not usually required. Dengue fever is present though, so bite prevention is still important.
Travel Health Tips
- Water: Bottled is the safest option throughout the country.
- Mosquitoes: Dengue is the main risk. DEET repellent, long clothing, treated nets.
- Leeches: Common when trekking in wet areas. Harmless but unpleasant. Wear long socks and trousers.
- Sun: Tropical sun year-round. Factor 50 and a hat.
- Driving: Roads can be challenging. Hire a driver rather than self-driving if unsure.
