Vietnam has become one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations for UK travellers. From Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in the north to Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta in the south, it packs a lot into a relatively easy trip.

Health risks are manageable with the right preparation. The main concerns are food and waterborne diseases and mosquito-borne infections.

Travel Health Tips

  • Street food: It’s half the reason to go. Eat where there’s a queue, make sure food is cooked fresh.
  • Water: Bottled only. Avoid ice except in established restaurants.
  • Mosquitoes: Dengue in cities, Japanese Encephalitis in rural areas. DEET repellent, long sleeves at dusk.
  • Traffic: Crossing the road in Hanoi takes some getting used to. Walk steadily and don’t stop suddenly.
  • Prescription meds: Bring your own supply. Pharmacy quality can be inconsistent.
